i think i've found my dress. the $214 one from Bloomingdales. it feels me. it feels more like a fancy dress i would wear, and less like a costume. it's comfortable. i'm thinking of adding a sparkly belt or thicker ribbon to accentuate the waistline.

perhaps will add a modest, detachable, chiffon Watteau train for the ceremony to add a little pomp and circumstance (and to cover up the unsightly zipper. why didn't they just put it on the side???).

i say "Watteau train" like i've known what that is my entire life. i've known what it looks like, but learned what it's officially called last night.

this Cymbeline dress at Pre Owned Wedding Dresses.

this one by Bari Jay sort of reminds me of it altho i'd like to see it on a human in a normal position. both are ruffly and have a removeable lower skirt (the better to dance with, my dear). also, the Bari Jay dress is easily $5,000 less than the Cymbeline dress. need to make an appointment at RK Bridal to try it on. not sure this is the sort of wedding we're having, but it'll be fun regardless. right?

my instructions to my best bitches is going to be this: NAVY. beyond that. the search for the perfect dress is all theirs. i really want them to buy something that they feel awesome in, will REALLY TRULY wear again and is within their (not my) budget. as you'll see from a few of my selections, i mean NAVY as the base color, not the only color. it just seems more real and less costumey to me that way. here are just a few i found on TopShop.

just saw this wedding and now must have this or this.

for the record, i did not steal the above couple's hanky idea. i have been collecting vintage hankies which i'm going to stamp w/ our initials and wedding date. i'm going to have my junior hootchies hand them out to the lady guests. cyooot, right? to date, i have about 175. overkill perhaps, but i'm hoping to use them in the decor as well. maybe a little canopy over our noggins? i like the way a canopy can create a sacred space anywhere.

gorgeous dresses, but neither my size nor in my budget. i can't imagine paying $7k for a used dress. if i have that kind of money, i'm buying a new one, custom-made with tiny 24k bells sewn in the petticoats... and a built-in vibrator.

no, we won't be getting married there, but that's what i'd like to serve as inspiration for our decor. simple and elegant with the food and produce being the focus not $500 towering vases of flowers that will wither and die. i love the idea of using the fruit and vegetables the next day to make a pie and a big pot of soup.

it's pretty casual, but i love the pouf on the shoulder, and it would be perfect for Leland or Vermont or Woodstock wedding. very Michelle Obama Inauguration Ball Dress. plus, super-comfortable. i wouldn't have to worry about my belly and NO SPANX! fingers crossed it fits and flatters. my D-cup breasts might look like a shelf in this dress. good thing Bloomies has a great return policy. my friend C used to return shoes she'd had (and worn) for a year. for shame.
